Today we saw Brecon's six game unbeaten run come to an end with a close four tries to three defeat at the hands of Merthyr. Brecon started the game on the back foot against a much bigger Merthyr side unable to keep the visitors going over the line for an early try. Brecon responded with a well worked team try seeing speedy Ellis Morgan dodge through the Merthyr defence. The rest of the half possession was turned from team to team with some brilliant tagging from both teams. Iwan Lewis and Luc Griffiths carried on the great defence by turning Merthyr over after the break. Some hard running from Harvey Bowen, Josh O'Donnell and captain Josh Evans saw a good oppertunity go begging with Cai going close in the corner. Merthyr then gained possession to take the lead with a speedy side stepping run in the corner. But Brecon werent finished yet with Ellis Morgan popping up for his second try of the match from a brilliant phase of passing from the home side. Merthyr took the game to Brecon scoring two quick tries in concession but captain Josh Evans scored a great individual try bursting down the touch line to score. What a fantastic effort by both teams this game could of easily gone either way in a hard contested game. Thanks for all support and commitment from the parents and players.
