Brecon U14s continued their friendly rivalry against Gwernyfed on the weekend as they hosted the greens at Parc de Pugh.
In perfect playing conditions Gwernyfed made the better start and were unlucky not to score after sustained pressure in the Brecon 10 and 22 meter areas.
In an attempt to refresh the team the home side started with a number of boys playing in unfamiliar positions and even early in the game it was evident the moves seemed successful.
Gwernyfed have a well-practiced and successful lineout in this age group and it was pleasing to note that the home side showed a marked improvement from the previous week in this facet of the game. The Brecon lineout contested well and significantly improved the percentage of lineout possession they won.
The scrum again performed well and held the upper hand with a few players returning to the side to sure up the scrum and make good yards in the loose.
It was pleasing to see Matthew getting back to full fitness and again finding his form after his early season injury. The Brecon back row and half-backs put in their usually dogged performance and defended and tackled relentlessly.
The Brecon backs, some of who were playing in new positions, again did the damage and showed how dangerous they are with ball in hand by scoring 7 tries only before one of the forwards got on the score sheet with a try.
The final score was 49 – 5 and this was a much better all round performance from the team. Keep up the good work guys.
