Brecon Under 14 58 Cefn Coed U14 0

Only two of our mini and junior matches survived the freezing conditions on Sunday morning.  The Under 14's made light of the conditions and put in a fine all round performance to secure a convincing victory over Cefn Coed RFC by 58-0.

Full report to follow.

Mark's report

Brecon RFC U14s hosted the return match against Cefn Coed at the old MOD pitch on Sunday. The visitors from over the Beacons are always welcome opponents, as win or loose they approach the game in a spirit that junior rugby should be played.

After a sharp frost the night before the morning brought full sunshine and one could have been forgiven for thinking it was springtime in April but for the slight ‘nip in the air’.

Due to a couple on injuries and non-availability the home team could only field 14 players this meant that a number of boys were forced to slot into unfamiliar positions notably Iwan Havard and Keegan Williams.

Brecon started in fine fettle and were three scores ahead within a few minutes of kick off with Matthew Williams, Dan Hiscocks and Charlie East crossing the visitors try line.

Brecon still have an relatively inexperienced pack and it was pleasing to see Glyn Powell, Dewi Worwood and Gareth Stroud making useful yards while Matthew Williams and Jack Jones took the ball through ‘route one’ smashing into the ‘Coed’ defence.   The visitors tackled relentlessly and must be praised for their manner and the way their coaches continued to applaud and encourage their players in the face of relentless pressure from the home side.

Brecon sustained their scoring onslaught during the second half with a turn over by Brychan Davies leading to a try by Oliver Lewis, while Charlie East, Iestyn Havard, Dan Hiscocks and Ben Griffin also added to the scoreboard total.

There are some exciting fixtures coming up in the next few weeks which will really test the Brecon side.

Great report mark thank you for mentioning me and taking the shocking and rare picture of me with the ball

Great effort yesterday lads. Some great games coming up in the next few weeks so make sure you all make the effort to get to training. You are fortunate to have Andrew, Gwyn and Howell to help out at training so make sure you all take full advantage of that if you all want to keep improving.
